Sigurd S. Arntzen

I am a PhD candidate in Economics at BI Norwegian Business School, on the 2026–27 academic job market. I study political selection: who reaches office and what the law they write contains. My work links large-scale administrative and court records to the full population of politicians and uses large language models to read legislation at scale. In my job market paper, I show that Norwegian governments adopt about two-thirds of the legislation their expert commissions draft, but tend to rewrite it to widen their own discretion. My research is forthcoming in the American Political Science Review.
